Kim asked if I would be interested in posting about my favorite Prince album…
This is so hard.
I’ve been a fan since I watched him on American Bandstand…… “I Wanna Be Your Lover” in 1979. I was 17 and instantly fell in love.
Loved everything since then, and in 1984, Purple Rain happened. I was pregnant. In September, I went into labor — frightened, no idea what to expect. I had a midwife because we were not well off. When I was preparing to go in to the hospital, she suggested I bring some music to keep me calm, music that comforted me… The Purple Rain album was that. September 24,1984, I delivered twin daughters (SURPRISE!) all natural, with only Prince’s help. They were born to “Purple Rain” and today, at 32 years old, they still love Prince. So, of course, PR is sentimental for me. My favorite? No.
I have to say that, right now, The Gold Experience is my favorite of the ones I have. For me it has a little of everything I love about Prince: funk, dance, a touch of anger, oh so much sexy (that voice!) and love….so much love.
“TMBGITW” — so beautiful, so much love in that song-I feel like Prince really loved women, and wrote this song for all of us.
“Dolphin” — means more to me now than it ever did.
“Billy Jack Bitch” — so funky! — one of my favorites for cleaning…
“We March” — so fitting.
“Endorphinemachine” — I just love it….something about his voice and the beat…
“P Control” — I feel like many don’t get the meaning behind this song (among others).
“Eye Hate U” – WOW. Just WOW.
I could go on and on about this album. I love them all…but now, at this time The Gold Experience is my favorite.
